Bachelor of Computer Science

Build the Future of Technology

The  Bachelor of Computer Science (BCS) is our most technical and research-intensive program. It is designed for students who want to dive deep into the algorithms, systems, and theory that power the modern world. Whether you aim to develop the next breakthrough in AI or secure global networks, the BCS provides the specialized expertise needed to solve the world's most complex technical challenges.

The BCS Path: Foundations to Specialization

Your journey begins with a shared foundational experience, giving you the time to explore different areas of computer science before committing to a major.

  • Year 1: The Core Foundation – Master the essentials of programming, systems architecture, and mathematical logic. Every BCS student starts here, ensuring a rock-solid technical base.
  • Year 2: The Gateway Year – This is your year of exploration. Alongside core topics like Data Structures and Software Development, you’ll take "Gateway Courses" in areas like AI, Cybersecurity, and Graphics. These courses help you discover your passion before selecting a major.
  • Years 3 & 4: Deep Specialization – Once you choose one of our six majors, your final two years are tailored to that field. You will move into advanced coursework and research, graduating as a specialist in your chosen domain.

Choose Your Major

Create, interact with, and leverage AI in an efficient and ethical way.

Protect systems, networks, data, and programs from digital attacks.

Apply digital technologies in a strategic way to improve existing processes in business.

Improve the usability and user experience (UX) of websites, apps, programs and games.

Explore the theory of computer systems to develop and apply algorithms for complex tasks.

Learn the process of creating, designing, testing, and maintaining computer programs.

By the end of your degree, you will have the knowledge and skills to build, influence and evaluate technology in various fields. You’ll not only become a strong programmer but will master the skills needed to create and confidently use new and innovative technologies.

Elevate Your Degree: The Honours Program

For students looking for an extra challenge or considering a future in research, the Honours program offers a more rigorous and analytical path. Available for both the Bachelor of Computer Science and the Bachelor of Applied Computer Science, this option is the premier preparation for graduate-level study, such as a Master of Computer Science (MCS).

Why Choose Honours?

  • Research Experience: Work one-on-one with a faculty member to complete an Honours Thesis, contributing new knowledge to the field of computer science.
  • Competitive Edge: Demonstrate a higher level of technical and analytical mastery to top-tier employers and graduate schools worldwide.
  • Accelerated Pathway: Honours students are often eligible for the MCS Jumpstart, allowing you to begin graduate-level research and coursework during your final undergraduate year.
