±·²¹³¾±ð:Ìý Jocelyn Manley, Class of 2019
Current employer: Teck Resources Ltd. Fording River Operations (FRO)
Position: Drill and Blast Engineer In Training (EIT)
Why did you choose engineering: I chose engineering because of the challenges. Every day you problem solve and sometimes you need to push yourself to make a decision. That constant personal growth through a changing environment is why I chose engineering. Along, of course, with the ability to work anywhere.
Favourite part of your career: I love the range of experience I have had and will continue to get. Rotations every couple of years keep your job new and exciting.
Biggest challenge: My biggest challenge has been on the technical side. Designing blasts can get complicated and though I learned about it in school the learning curve has been steep since entering the work force. Thankfully Teck and FRO have staff that are very supportive and have taken time teach me.
What advice would you give to a student considering a career in engineering: Engineering will test you, but that's the point. If you are ready to learn every day for the rest of your working life you are an engineer. You may feel sometimes that you aren't smart enough to pass the class, or do the job, but always remember that people believe in you and trust you can get it done.Â
