College Royal 2025 was another incredible success, bringing together students, staff, and faculty in a celebration of agricultural tradition, hands-on learning, and community spirit. This year’s event saw over 90 students participate across the dairy, sheep, and poultry classes—an impressive testament to the enthusiasm and dedication of DAL AC students.
“College Royal is one of those events that truly captures the spirit of our campus,” said Dean Heather Bruce.  “It’s wonderful to see students and faculty come together to learn, compete, and celebrate agriculture in such a hands-on way. Being in the poultry ring alongside our students was an absolute pleasure—it reminded me why this event is such an important part of our community.”
In the dairy class, four students competed in the experienced showmanship class, while 54 novice students proudly entered the ring for the first time. The sheep class saw 31 novice competitors alongside four experienced showmen, and two students took part in the poultry show. In addition, 20 staff members and faculty participated in College Royal, reflecting the strong sense of community and mentorship that makes this event so special.
“College Royal isn’t just about competition—it’s about connection, confidence, and growth. Events like this give students valuable hands-on animal handling experience, helping them build confidence and develop essential livestock management skills,” added Farm Operations Manager Jean Lynds.
College Royal also fosters leadership, teamwork, and a deeper appreciation for agriculture in a fun, inclusive, and engaging way.
“To students, College Royal is more than a livestock show—it’s a celebration of the long-standing tradition on our campus and within our agricultural community,” explained Leah NewCombe, a 4th year Animal Science student and event chair. Â
“It showcases the showmanship, hard work, dedication, and passion of our students. It also provides students from all programs and backgrounds an opportunity to learn about animal handling and develop their showmanship skills. It was an honour to chair this amazing event and be part of such a proud tradition. Seeing so much participation this year was truly inspiring.”
